Kids are so weird: in da mousth!

One of the fun things, at least up to a point, is how kiddos fixate when they are acquiring new skills.  Maybe it is stacking rings or scrubbing the table with a sponge; they really get into things.  Then they do it over and over and over.

They are going through this process with a lot of select words these days -- rabeet (rabbit), orangesh (orange), happo (hippo), and ecks (eggs).  They are also hitting a few phrases pretty hard, which is really cool to witness and vaguely hysterical to experience from the next room.

Last night, mommy was reading Green Eggs and Ham and I was tidying up the room before bed.  As I am filling up the humidifier, over the sounds of the water I hear Em say, "Ecks, ecks, in da mousth."

The bottom line is that anytime Em thinks about food she follows it with "in da mousth" because, of course, that is where food goes.  Are you hungry?  "Yeah! In da mousth!"

This morning I made the mistake chose to let them help me feed Griffin.  I was channeling my inner Maria Montessori/experiential learning is good/what's a little mess self.  Of course, since I was making "ecks" and "ceereuhl" I left them mostly unattended.  When I managed to check in on the progress Griffin was looking mournfully at his food bowl, which was empty, and his water bowl, which was a soupy mess of kibble.  I explained where we needed to put to the food.  Em looked up and said, "Cat!  In da mousth!" and got to work moving the kibble piece by piece into the food bowl.
