This isn't a parenting blog, it isn't a "mommy blog", and we certainly don't espouse any advice. We started The Daly Story as a way to keep in touch with you all - our dear friends and family - when my pregnancy took a scary and unforeseen turn from "normal" to very not normal. It's really about pictures of the two sweetest little girls you ever met, and a few words thrown in here and there. Our goal was to make us feel closer to you, and you to us, while we all live in this fast-paced, overly digitally-connected, but oh so poorly personally-connected world. I don't really want to begin sending you off to read other words by other people, although there are plenty of amazing words written out there.
However, this piece in the New York Times this weekend was too moving for me to let go of. It's about parenting in the here and now. Mindfulness of the moment you are in. We expect to have many more moments to come, and yes, most of us want to teach our children about consequences - most of them will have future moments where consequences do matter. But this is a lovely reminder to keep this present day held dear.
Go read Notes from a Dragon mom. And have some tissues handy.
Thanks, Chris, for sharing this profound love story. For all of us, even those without children, it reminds us of how to stay in the here and now.
