Babies + Public Policy = Awesome

While this is mostly a baby space, last Friday, HHS Secretary (and former Kansas Guv) Kathleen Sebelius toured Seton, and specifically the NICU, where the ladies were!  This brought together two great things for me, (1) my girls and (2) a policy crush.  In other words, while some may swoon over close encounters with a rockstar, I am giddy that my girls pretty much got to hang out with a Cabinet member.  Those of you who know me well are likely not surprised by this.  My best guess is that the girls were sleeping during the visit, but I know for a fact she spent some time with their neighbor.  Secretary Sebelius' visit made a few of the local papers - articles linked below for my policy geek friends.

Sebelius & Barnett: To cut the cost of health care, reduce errors and readmissions

Anyway, she was at Seton because they are widely recognized for the great work they have done to bring down birth trauma rates and NICU admissions, as well as generally improve outcomes for the littlest among us.  The more time we are here and the more we learn about other hospitals and people's experiences, the more thankful we are for Seton and its tremendous staff.
On Day 1, when the girls were minutes old, they each had
3-4 dedicated nurses attending to them in both the OR and the NICU.

Which reminds me, it is National Nurses Week.  Please thank a nurse for the work they do!!  We are forever indebted to the amazing and professional men and women who make up the Antepartum, Labor & Delivery, and NICU nursing staff here at Seton.
