| 32 weeks and counting! |
Long story short, over the next 72 hours I was dosed up with fluids, morphine, and finally magnesium sulfate to try to repress the preterm labor. The "mag" finally had an effect and i settled down into contractions about 30 minutes apart. As any mother of multiples ("MOM") brought into the hospital for preterm labor knows, mag pretty much sucks, in a word. The side effects are rough, and the stronger the dose, the more like a crazed lunatic you feel. Thank goodness that treatment is over!
As of now (Thursday), I'm still at the hospital, but I've been moved from labor & delivery (more acute cases and folks who are likely to deliver soon) to antepartum (folks considered stable enough to have less constant monitoring, but not stable enough to go home). My doctor has basically figured out that I just contract a lot - it's not progressive, meaning it's not initiating true labor yet. She upgraded her diagnosis from "irritable" uterus (which I got 2 weeks ago when we spent 1 night in the hospital for less severe but still regular contractions) to just plain "pissed off". :) I don't blame the poor thing! It's been through a lot between the TTTS, the rapid fluid growth and expansion, the surgery, and then having to deal with two babies pretending it's Romper Room in there...
I'll be here at least through Monday, and possibly up to two weeks! Although this is no picnic, I am thanking my stars that it's only 2 weeks... I've read about plenty of MOMs who had to endure months of hospital bed rest and all the joy that accompanies that. Plus, we are in the home stretch of meeting our girls!
I'll be 32 weeks tomorrow, and I'm so thankful to meet that milestone. Making it to 34 would be a truly amazing thing.
