New Things We Do

Just to be clear, "we" refers to the babies.  Chris and I have been standing up without holding on for a few years now.

1. Standing up unassisted!  Yesterday I turned from the dishes to see Em swaying in the middle of the room. She now moves not-quite-seemlessly from downward dog/headstand to squat to wobbly stand.  Just waiting for some steps!

2. Teeth?  I am fairly certain Char is cutting her first tooth.  She was up a good chunk of the night and having eliminated most of the other causes I poked around her gums this morning.  She wouldn't let me get a good look, but I think I felt it.  1 down, 39 to go (between the two of them)! Then again, we've thought they were cutting teeth for months now.  No one should hold their breath; we need visual confirmation.

3. You should be dancin' (like Em).  She does a really funny squat dance move, which is pretty infectious.  It's quite a scene when we are all doing it in the kitchen, and it takes a lot longer to make dinner.

4. Telling you how they want to eat:  They'd rather feed themselves from the bowl, as opposed to you laying nibbles out for them on the table.  They'd also rather spoon feed themselves.  Silly mama made Em whine and point at the spoon for a while before she figured it out yesterday.  Alas, I had to turn over the spoon.  Then Char wanted in on the action.  I fill the spoon, they try to get it in their mouths.  It's pretty great.  By the end of the meal they have a yogurt facial and need to be hosed down.

5.  Phone call for Charlotte.  Pretty much everything is a phone to Char right now.  Lids, blocks, small books, etc.  She'll hold it up to her ear and then start squawking.  Then she hands it to you and you have to tell her who's calling and wants to speak with her.  Whether or not they know it, lots of people have been calling -- Gram and Mimi, Pop Pop and Poppy, aunts, uncles, friends, and stuffed animals.  It is pretty busy in our house with all the calls!

6. Cruising with one hand.  Char has also moved from the two-hand cruise to the one-hand cruise.  This morning she and I walked around a bit and I only had to hold on to one of her paws. Not only does this mean the balance is improving, it is also a lot easier on the spotter and her back!
