things not to forget: 5.5 months

~ charlotte's shrieking.  she has started exercising her vocal chords and does this amazing, hysterical squeak-shrieking.  it's not crying, it's definitely not babbling, she's perfectly happy - it's just a shriek of excitement as she tests out her ability to make noise.  and it's the funniest damn thing you ever saw.

~ emerson's hands.  em is using her hands like crazy.  she does this interesting scratching at different surfaces with her fingertips that is so cool - it could be grasping, or it could be something else entirely - feeling the surface of different objects, maybe?

~ sleeping on their tummies.  charlotte flips over the minute you put her flat in her crib and has been sleeping that way for a few days now.  she wakes up all red-faced on her nose & cheeks.  precious, precious.  emerson has just started to do this too - she slept her first nap today on her tummy!

~ emerson's continued fascination with her sister.  em can watch her sister for ages.

~ the toes and legs.  charlotte goes for her toes the minute the diaper comes off, grabbing each foot with one hand, and shoving those suckers into her mouth.  it's pretty adorable.  in fact, both girls throw their legs up in air near their heads as soon as they are diaper-free.  they love diaper-free time!

~ emerson sucking her right thumb.  finally one of them can sooth themselves to sleep fairly easily!  of course, it's em.  now she sucks on it all the time - during the night, day, whenever.  it's pretty cute too, she jams the whole thing so far in her mouth that the other 4 fingers are forced open in a fan-like wave.

~ charlotte's sitting up.  she almost can sit up on her own!  almost.

~ emerson's thwump.  emerson does this hilarious manuever in her crib wherein she raises her legs perpendicular to her body and then brings them crashing down to the mattress, creating a resounding thwump sound.  it's hilarious.
