Date Night!

Now to the present day...

Nothing says date night like a consignment sale.  On Friday we hired our first sitter and headed out for a night of buying cheap stuff and eating good food.

Friday was the opening night for the Austin Mothers of Multiples (AMOM) consignment sale, wherein the folks in the club unload kid gear at ridiculously low prices.  It opens to the public on Saturday and though I've heard it is still a heck of a sale (lines at the door, that sort of thing), I can't imagine there was much left after the MOMs tore through on Friday night.

I handled it about as well as I usually handle these sorts of things.  Overstimulation quickly set in and I just stood there staring and drooling slightly.  Ocasionally I put in the effort to try to keep Chris focused --  for better or worse we both lose focus in different ways at crowded events.  I become dumb and Chris starts flitting around like a small bird alighting on various shiny objects and things that sparkle.  Good news is she is good humored when I tell her our nest can't fit anymore things that sparkle -- ok, except for that.  I think we only dropped about $15 so no damage done... and having completed our recon we will be prepared for the next big sale!

Following MOMing* we grabbed two seats at the bar at Vespaio.  On a Saturday night, on South Congress Ave, you say?  I know, the fates were smiling down on us.  Cocktails, spinach salad (or since it is Vespaio, Insalate Spinaci), and a pizza that -- I kid you not -- featured proscuitto, argula, truffle oil, and two sunnyside up eggs.  We are still recovering.

It was a delightful evening and we only texted the sitter about sixteen times regarding our waking babes.  I think the moms did pretty well.  Huge thanks to our facilitiators, Mimi & PopPop, who sent a gift for our anniversary with the instructions "Get out of the house and have some fun!"  We definitely did.

*MOM: v. (1) To engage in a sanctioned Mothers of Multiples club activity. We are going to MOM it up next week because there is a meeting and a play group.
(2) To perform motherly duties to more than one child of the same age at the same time.  I MOMed like a champ: two bottles, two chairs, some singing and everyone was fed in 20 minutes!

  1. Yay for you guys! Date night!

And who knew that MOM could be a verb. Nice job using it in a sentence. A+ from your English teacher ;-)
